Nice work.

27th Dec 1943. The ship had been located and shadowed by Sunderland aircraft of No201 Sqn RAF Coastal Command. Liberator H/311 Sqn RAF Coastal Command aircraft was loaded with 8xRP, 2 x 250lb MC and 1 x 500lb MC bombs. The attack commenced from the starboard beam of the vessel shortly after 1605, the first pair of RP's were released from 800ft at 600yds range and the last set of RP's were released at 600ft at 400yds range. The follow up attack was made at 600ft with the 2x250lb MC followed by the 1x500lb MC bombs using a MKIII low-level bombsight from the stern of the vessel. All bombs were released on the single follow up attack, and hit the vessel. The report indicated the first attack was made in the face of intense flack and parachute cables. H/311 Sqn left the scene at 1615 with the ship burning furiously. Further attacks were made by Liberators F/86 Sqn and L/86 Sqn. Five Halifax aircraft of No 502 Sqn RAF also located the vessel and continued to monitor it's continued burning and subsequent sinking. F/86 Sqn reported four lifeboats leaving the side of the sinking vessel. These survivors were picked up by the RN on the afternoon of the 29th Dec by ships of the 6th Escort Group.

The Rocket Projectiles "RP" are the same type carried by the RAF Mosquito and Beaufighter Squadrons in Coastal Command. The report does not specify if the warhead on the RP were the 60lb HE or the 25lb Solid Armour Piercing type.

Aircraft of Coastal Command had been searching for the vessel on the 26th Dec and there were other search aircraft involved on the 27th.

Only 1 250 lb bomb was carried and the Zdenek Hanus - bomb aimer/navigator was in the front of the aircraft where the bombsight was mounted.

The story of the sinking is here:

I have always used this incident as an example of determination and bravery, and in particular how 311 Sqn made a massive contribution to the efforts of Coastal Command, along with the Polish, Dutch and Norwegians Squadrons.

I heard there were some big problems with these because they were a pig to land and the altitudes they flew at meant the crew got hypothermia if their suits malfunctioned.

all of this is irrelevant, mind, because this is a really exciting drawing

This is really good. I love the detail on the Liberator's skin, looks almost real if it was a bit smoother.

B-24D modified by RAF Coastal Command for the anti-submarine role with search radar and Leigh Light. Some were fitted with 8 zero length rocket launchers, 4 on each wing.
